Ever since I started subscribing to subscription boxes so far the books I have received are books I wouldn’t pick if I had the option. I know this is mostly “hit or miss” when it comes to subscription boxes, even if I chose a genre I mind enjoy, there is always the possibilities I will get something out of my comfort zone.

This month I received0 my first #Owlcrate. Now, Owlcrate is one of the best subscription boxes out there, they are always full of books and amazing goodies and every box is a different theme! This month it was the #SPOOKYBOX

Owlcrate is a round $29 something, they are a bit expensive but it’s worth it, all the goodies plus a brand new hard cover book! Yes, totally worth it.\

Let’s start by how amazing the box looks, the small owl prints are the cutest and the opening of the box is easy and the material is resistant (not towards water but you get my point). Their logo plus the “Magical, Monthly, Reads” is gorgeous and the first thing you see inside is a small post card with spoiler! But do not fear, you can leave the post card inside and discover everything without being spoiled.

This month being Halloween month, the Spooky theme was fitting and nicely done.

We got Sugar Skulls Erasers (that makes me want to safe forever because they are so pretty!)

The magnetic monster bookmarks are very cute and very useful. We got witch (that reminds me of the Wicked Witch of the East) and a small skull (please be careful if you are sensitive to strong smells, they have a heave metallic smell –because of the metal for the magnetic-) but they are so very cute!

For a touch of difference, we have scented beads and they smell amazing, soft and flowery (at least for me!) the type you want to put next to a candle and relax.

A small pouch with the face of Edgar Allan Poe (maybe because some of his books are very Halloween-like), the pouch is very cute and resistant, perfect for makeup of pencils for school.

And lastly we have the book, “A madness so discreet” by Mindy McGinnis. A GORGEOUS HARDCOVER BOOK with a stunning cover and a thrilling adventure. Now, like I mentioned before books coming from a box subscription where I never know if I will like it are a hit or miss, this one, unfortunately is between miss kind of hit for me. I do not enjoy scary books, nor historical books but from time to time I do enjoy a thriller (like Agatha Christy for example, her books are always thrilling). The cover of this book is amazing but the premise is not of my liking, after all I have never read anything asylum related.

Preface from Goodreads where the books holds a 3.85/5:

Grace Mae knows madness.

She keeps it locked away, along with her voice, trapped deep inside a brilliant mind that cannot forget horrific family secrets. Those secrets, along with the bulge in her belly, land her in a Boston insane asylum.

When her voice returns in a burst of violence, Grace is banished to the dark cellars, where her mind is discovered by a visiting doctor who dabbles in the new study of criminal psychology. With her keen eyes and sharp memory, Grace will make the perfect assistant at crime scenes. Escaping from Boston to the safety of an ethical Ohio asylum, Grace finds friendship and hope, hints of a life she should have had. But gruesome nights bring Grace and the doctor into the circle of a killer who stalks young women. Grace, continuing to operate under the cloak of madness, must hunt a murderer while she confronts the demons in her own past.

In this beautifully twisted historical thriller, Mindy McGinnis, acclaimed author of Not a Drop to Drink and In a Handful of Dust, explores the fine line between sanity and insanity, good and evil—and the madness that exists in all of us.

Do not think it will sit in my shelf forever! I will for sure pick this baby and give it a try this weekend and read it around Halloween because the cover is too gorgeous for words and I’m sure I will enjoy it (there is a first time for everything and who knows, maybe this is the book that will open the doors to my love for thrillers! And even historical ones).

Owlcrate does not disappoint me, even if the book is not 100 percent my cup of tea I will for sure read it. And I will anxiously wait for the next box!

So guys, if you are looking for a subscription box OWLCRATE is your thing. It’s full of amazing and useful goodies and amazing books.
